Thirds Report
It was a similar theme to a couple of our pre-Xmas games with one inning proving costly for us in the wash up.
Upwey scored 5 runs in the bottom of the first, largely from walks, and from that point onward we competed well but couldn’t make any inroads.
Offensively we had scoring opportunities but couldn’t convert our chances.
On a positive note, we fielded a very, very young side and it was great to see our young guys take the game right up to our more experienced opposition.
Well done to Tommy Barlow, Zac Stafilis and Ethan Johnson who made their 3rds debut this week. All three had good, disciplined at bats and made some top plays defensively.
Fourths Report
What was impressive was the level of application & concentration shown by the young guys: Ben Tan, Cam Branson, Ethan Holloway, Mitch Smith, Mason Rogers & Bangk Gogos … was awesome. Keep that up against Blackburn next week guys
Div 4 Reds Report
Beat Blackburn at Blackburn 9-5 on a stinking hot day.
The juggernaut continues to roll on with another win after dropping a game against Waverley Black just before the break.
This weekend the manager finally succumbed to Naga SAN’s constant nagging and gave him the ball. He pitched 2 innings holding the opponents to 4 hits & 4 K’s in a fantastic effort. Some errant throws in the field didn’t help Naga’s cause, but he left the mound with a lead the Josh Puyk held on to it with 3 innings of no hit shut out relief.
Josh has got to be the favourite for league MVP thus far with his pitching combined with consistent (hard) hitting, and paced the Red team with 2 more hits, his fly out to centre field was the second time he has made an out all season!!!
Naga also contributed with the bat with 2 hits as did Fez, who hit the ball beautifully, as did Tim Puyk.
Matt Leithhead finished off the scoring in the 5-run first with a magnificent blast to centre field that scored AJ from third on the catch.
Everyone up and down the lineup harassed the opposition pitchers, not giving up cheap outs and putting the in play constantly, forcing to home team to make errors. AJ Mithen is a case in point, hitting the ball hard but straight at fielders who couldn’t handle the rockets hit at them to force errors & scored twice.
Shae Crowhurst had the AB of the game facing 11 pitches fouling of 6, ultimately getting out but made the pitcher work that led to a 5th/last inning rally that netted 3 more runs from the bottom of the lineup. A good win to keep pace with Mako’s Mongrels.
Thanks to Tim Puyk for his technical and strategic support
